WINNING IS IN YOUR PERSISTANCE
Written by Jason Carey
Genesis 32 tells of the world's most famous wrestling match; that between Jacob and an angel. This angel clearly had an advantage over Jacob in both power and authority. However, Jacob perceived that this angel also had a blessing from God for him and he became determined that he was going to get it!
There were at least three opportunities for Jacob to give up. First, the Bible says he was left all alone, so he had no back up; no one to help him. He may have been afraid but he pushed fear aside and engaged this angelic being anyway. Second, their struggle lasted all night. He may have been exhausted, but he remained focused on getting this blessing. Third, the angel knocked Jacob's hip out of joint. He may have been in agonizing pain, but even with tears he kept holding on.
Jacob made a very profound declaration to the angel, "I will not let you go until you bless me". You see, for Jacob, giving up was not an option. Through his fears, his tears, and his tiredness he emerged a winner. Not that he out-wrestled an angel, but he was able to overcome every opportunity to quit.
I don't know about you, but I'm encouraged. There may be times we have to fight alone, or it seems like we've been struggling for ever, or the pain is just too much -- but you can't let go, because you are a winner! The blessing is for winners like you and me. Giving up is not an option!
